Temporary Surrogate Mother

  • by

I admire and yet pity you
Immersed in their worlds
Happy to drop everything
To help one or the other
Nothing is too important
Not for you, temporary surrogate mother

And I wonder, alone, as I do
While you walk their path
Holding their hands
Touching their lives
Lost unto your own
Do you admire you?
Do you pity you?

Do you remember you?
The role you should live
Your purpose and reasons
Those things... no time do you give
As you twist in their battles
Avoiding their flak
I watch in bemusement
Do you want your life back?

I admire.... and yet pity you
Immersed in their worlds
As your own falls around you
Collapsing and failing
Unnoticed, unseen, unimportant?
You should remember
You're only a temporary surrogate mother

Will you remember you?
The role you should live
Your purpose and reasons
When you; they're done with
When the battles have ended
There's no-one to defend
Will your life have no meaning
When there's no fucked up friends?

Will life remember you?
In the role you once had
When you're back where you should be
Will the others be glad
Would it matter that you're home
Or that you finally see
You've forgotten your own life
Now theres nothing to be.
