Darkness

  • by

As darkness beat once more upon my door
Candle flickering stubbornly, but dying
I prepare once more for night
Cold, empty unprotected
Tears, pain and fright
Now so old, all so expected
My eyes close as the flame retreats
And my heart freezes as night enters
Mind numb, I die once more

And dead and cold I wait
For my own will to return
For daylight
For warm sunshine
And alone I will stand once more
Another battle to lose
I wait.

And she comes
Unknown spectre of love
Her warm touch
Her eyes ablaze with power
The lamp in her grasp my only hope

So we wait
And we win
And we live
No longer in fear
No longer alone
Nights rule is over
Our time has begun
