From a Frog To His Princess

  • by

I looked away when you gazed at me
Craving the earth to swallow my body whole
To take my ugly, green self
And protect your naieve eyes

Secretly I looked back
Your reflection eternally in my pool
Distorted slightly
I watched you, watch me.

Secretly I was a prince
My imaginary steed carrying me to you
Not an ugly, green frog
But a fantasy, in your eyes.

But here I sat while you gazed at me
Your reflection staring too from my pool
Smiling politely
Feeling you watching me.

Then brave and strong I turn to you
A smile my sword, my heart my steed
'Princess' said my ugly, green self
Gazing back into your eyes

And there you sat, and smiled at me
Your reflection staring too from my pool
Leaning slightly
In a moment you're touching me

From that moment I was that prince
If only in my heart and mind
Not an ugly, green frog
But your gallant knight, in my eyes...

And here I sit, do you remember me?
My reflection staring back from my pool
Still an ugly green frog
But with a smile.
